IASIA 2023 Conference Gathered Global Minds Shaping the Future of Governance

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) is proud to announce the conclusion of the IASIA 2023 Conference, held from July 31 to August 4. This year's event, centered around the theme "Building Better Futures of Governance towards Achieving the SDGs in a VUCA World," brought together a diverse and dynamic community of scholars, practitioners, and PhD students dedicated to improving public governance research, education, and practice across the globe.

The conference provided an exceptional platform for participants to engage in rigorous discussions, share innovative insights, and forge valuable connections. The culmination of this five-day intellectual exchange was celebrated through a captivating awarding, reporting, and closing ceremony.

The event witnessed the participation of 266 dedicated attendees from 41 countries, reaffirming the conference's global resonance and significance. Driven by the commitment to advance governance practices and address contemporary challenges, participants delved into an array of subjects encompassing public administration, policy implementation, and sustainable development.

8 Inspiring Plenary Sessions

The conference featured eight insightful plenary sessions, where 42 experts scrutinized the nuances of the main theme and explored novel approaches to creating robust governance systems in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous (VUCA) world.

56 Engaging Sessions

Comprising Working Groups, a PhD Seminar, and a Theme Conference Track, the event hosted a total of 56 parallel sessions. These sessions provided the opportunity for participants to share their insights and research findings with scholars, practitioners, and students from around the globe.

Global Participation and Collaboration

With submissions pouring in from 47 countries, the conference truly represented a global exchange of ideas. A total of 326 submissions underscored the event's international significance and relevance as a nexus for worldwide collaboration on public governance contemporary issues.

Recognition and Insights

The conference's crowning moments included lectures by the winners of the OP Dwivedi Award, Donald C. Stone Award, and Pierre DeCelles Award. Reports from IASIA Working Group leaders and the Team of Rapporteurs enriched the conference by presenting insightful outcomes. The closing ceremony expressed gratitude to all contributors, partners, and supporters and extended an invitation to future events.

Following the resounding success of the IASIA 2023 Conference, attention now turns to the highly anticipated IASIA 2024 Conference, that will take place in the vibrant city of São Paulo, Brazil. In collaboration with the Fundação Getulio Vargas’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP), this forthcoming event promises to continue the tradition of fostering global collaboration and advancing the field of public governance.

Founded in 1954 through a strategic alliance between the Brazilian government, business community, and Michigan State University, FGV EAESP emerged as a trailblazing institution in response to Brazil's rapid economic and societal shifts. Over the years, the school has continuously evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of the contemporary world, offering diverse courses and services across various sectors.

In 2014, FGV EAESP Professional Master’s in Public Management and Policy (MPGPP) received accreditation from ICAPA, indicating its compliance with internationally recognized standards of excellence in public administration education and training.

The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is pleased to announce that Kimberley Atheba will be joining the Secretariat as Assistant Programme Manager, effective July 1st, 2025.

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) informs all interested participants that the extended deadline for submitting abstracts or panel proposals is rapidly approaching. Submissions for the IASIA 2025 Conference will be accepted only until June 30, 2025.

IASIA is pleased to announce the establishment of Working Group XI: Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience, which will explore the opportunities and institutional challenges in integrating disaster risk reduction and climate change for urban resilience. The Group will also examine the crucial role that institutes and universities play in identifying structural gaps in governance and in developing effective training modalities for urban public officials and future leaders.
